Scribes had a pretty hard job. Writing with paper and pencil is easier than writing with a stylist in a clay tablet. If you make a mistake you can easily erase it off the paper than to rub it or start completely over on a clay tablet. In class, I was able to write a message in cuneiformon a clay tablet like the scribes did. It was pretty hard with all the lines and symbols needed to make one simple letter. I wrote only two words and restarted many times while scribes had to write long laws and messages for the king. I learned that the main reason scribes created cuneiform was to record what was being bartered and by who, similar to a receipt. Scribes would use cuneiform to record laws and messages from the king. Some of today's jobs similar to scribes are reporters and professional writers because they write news and information to share with others that is important and useful. Writing impacts everyone today because we use writing to store our ideas, express our feelings, and learn more every single day . If there wasn't writing, it would be substituted with talking. Everything would be longer and louder since we can't write. In school, there wouldn't be any writing for students to learn and practice reading. Writing would definitely develop and change with new ways to write and the technology on how we read the writing. Today we read on smart devices and paper but later on there might be holograms instead of devices and paper. Talking about writing like this is a bit weird and cool because who knows how high technology will be in the future and this reflection all started because of scribes and cuneiform. Down below is a picture of my message in cuneiform. It says, familylove which is an impacting phrase to my family.
